A member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) has dismissed claims that more than 150 people have died from swine flu, saying it has officially recorded only seven deaths around the world.
Vivienne Allan, from WHO’s patient safety program, said the body had confirmed that worldwide there had been just seven deaths - all in Mexico - and 79 confirmed cases of the disease.
“Unfortunately that [150-plus deaths] is incorrect information and it does happen, but that’s not information that’s come from the World Health Organisation,” Ms Allan told ABC Radio today.
“That figure is not a figure that’s come from the World Health Organisation and, I repeat, the death toll is seven and they are all from Mexico.”
Ms Allan said WHO had confirmed 40 cases of swine flu in the Americas, 26 in Mexico, six in Canada, two in Spain, two in Britain and three in New Zealand.
Ms Allan said it was difficult to measure how fast the virus was spreading.
She said a real concern would be if the flu virus manifested in a country where a person had had no contact with Mexico, and authorities were watching all countries for signs of that.
“There is no pattern that has emerged at this stage to be able to say that it is spreading in a particular way or it is spreading into a particular country … the situation is continuing to evolve,” she said.
She said the WHO was not recommending against overseas travel, but urged those who felt sick to stay home and others to ensure they kept their hands clean.
No decision had yet been made about vaccinations.
“This virus is not airborne, it’s caused by droplets … so it’s not a time for worry. It’s a time to be prepared,” Ms Allan said.

Evidence of precision hackery for anyone to see. And yet, Time says they rebuffed all attempts to hack the poll. Quoting from the time article: “TIME.com’s technical team did detect and extinguish several attempts to hack the vote”.

I’m a trucker with a stellar record, and I’ve been getting bigger and bigger transport jobs from the government over the years. The job’s been good to me, as I do not have to interact with anyone when I’m on the job, and most people stay away from me because they assume I’m dumb as a sack of bricks. I don’t mind, since I don’t like people.
Two weeks ago I finished transporting some biohazard-labeled sealed boxes to the Pentagon. After an armed escort met me at the loading dock, they told me to wait in truck until someone arrived with a check. These people weren’t the govt workers I knew and interacted with regularly, so they didn’t know that I wasn’t the average retarded truck driver. They didn’t think I had enough curiosity to wander around a bit, as I always do.
I saw the boxes from my truck opened and lying discarded in a room right by the dock. The contents were gone, but a sheet of paper with Pentagon letterhead was still lying inside. Half a page down was the heading “H1N1 phase I - probability of success by epicenter.” At the top of the list was Mexico City, followed by Los Angeles, New York, Houston, and Singapore(?). Not being retarded, I remembered enough of what I read to jar my memory when the first reports came out. Wherever you are, be careful - there are powers and interests here far more dangerous than you imagine.

Phil Markoff and his fiancee met in undergrad at the University of Albany in New York. According to their site, she was a senior at the time and Markoff was a sophomore. The couple volunteered together at a nearby medical center, doing scut work in the Emergency Room. Their first date was on November 11, 2005. They were engaged in May, 2008 and were set to be married on August 14 this year on the beach next to McLoone’s Pier House in Long Branch, NJ.
